Ethics Library: Articles and Links Lawrence Hinman of the University of San Diego has founded a page with links to hundreds of sites on the internet containing articles focusing on ethical issues. Ethics Updates is an extensive and comprehensive library "dedicated to promoting the thoughtful discussion of difficult moral issues." It contains analysis of historical sources on the study of ethics, classic texts, as well as articles and lecture notes on applied ethics. How does one approach the study of religion and morality from an unbiased viewpoint? We tried to focus on only a few sites that will give an overview without pushing any particular religious philosophy. In the objective study of religion, including that of Christianity, it is important to understand as accurately as possible what was originally written by the founders. One must avoid as much as possible the misunderstandings that attach themselves to a philosophy when misconceptions are perpetuated by those who try to interpret writings through the lenses of later societies. With religion, ethics and philosophy, as with other studies, it is important to go to original sources as much as possible. By no means complete, this A to Z Guide to World Religions from the BBC gives a taste of the wide range of religious philosphies that are available to the curious. One weakness of a list such as this is that it can be very difficult to boil down a philosophy (and the differences amongst these philosophies) into a truly accurate, generalized description. Christianity is one of the world's most pervasive religions, but there are so many "brands" of it, one can easily become confused. Here is one site that seems to remain true to original biblical sources and the historical record. An educational site, Vision says about itself that: "we do not proselytize, nor do we seek to convert anyone to any denomination or religious belief. Our only goal is to reestablish the Bible as a credible voice in the discussion of ideas." While there are interesting current events pages to explore on this site, of special interest to our readers are the subject headings of Philosophy and Ideas, Religion and the Bible, and Ethics and Morality. Family therapist Ronald Huxley, whose website ParentingToolbox.com is regularly featured on Oprah.com, has some interesting insight into how children develop moral awareness. Foundations Magazine is an online publication dedicated to presenting solid ideas for building an ethically-based life. It offers interesting articles from a variety of authors and times. Among others, you will find George Washington's Rules of Civility & Decent behavior in Company and in Conversation.
